Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies the natural or experimental sciences (e.g. chemistry and physics) and life sciences (e.g. biology, microbiology and biochemistry) together with mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. Chemical engineers "develop economic ways of using materials and energy". Chemical engineers use chemistry and engineering to turn raw materials into usable products, such as medicine, petrochemicals and plastics on a large-scale, industrial setting. They are also involved in waste management and research.

Modern chemical engineers are concerned with processes that convert raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. They are also concerned with pioneering valuable materials and related techniques Ė which are often essential to related fields such as nanotechnology, fuel cells, biotechnology, fluid dynamics, atomic energy, and bio-engineering so on.

Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi College of Engineering(BIGCE) provides the core and very dynamic branch which is Chemical engineering that provide you tremendous opportunity in jobs in Industry, Research and development and Process industry.

KSGBS's Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi College of Engineering were the leading college in solapur city. BIGCE has number of engineering branches which gives the quality of education to the student. The department of chemical Engineering was started in year 2013 with the permission of AICTE New Delhi & Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra with an intake capacity 60, the department was started with an under-graduate program, since then it has flourished to acquire new Frontiers.

The department, apart from routine academic Curriculum takes keen interest in several other academic activities like conducting seminars, workshops, conferences, expert lectures etc.

The course offers a four year Under-graduate Program, this course is affiliated to Solapur University, Solapur

Chemical Engineers have a very good opportunities to work in Govt. Maharatna Companies like Indian oil Co-operation (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Co-operation (ONGC), Coal India Limited (CIL), GAIL (INDIA) Limited , SAIL , NTPC and BHEL.

Other than Govt sector ,they can work in Private Organizations and companies which are involved in production area in India these include fertilizers ,petroleum, pharmaceuticals companies .There are many companies in this field like HUL, BPCL, HPCL, Vizag Steel, NFL, IFFCO, Kribhco, Asian paint, HPL , Gamble, Reliance industries, Essar, Cairn , Tata Chemicals, RCF, Asian Paints etc. Also there is huge job Oppurtnity in Overseas in Exploration.

Apart from this chemical engineers may work as a design engineer in companies like EIL, LINDE, L&T, Honeywell, Jacobs, KBR, shell, Flour. If you want to go in research field then you have to do MS/M.Tech and then PhD and do your research in different topic like nanotechnology, biotechnology, fluid dynamics etc. After Research or PhD you can join R&D department of a company.

Also, chemical engineers have tremendous opportunity to work abroad ., categories like Research and development, designing, Production, process, process safety, instrumentation etc.
